Fixing Windows connection

Yesterday I found a computer that can’t connect to outside world though ping sucessful and no firewall activated.

I found this error message when triing to telnet via DOS prompt:

The requested service provider could not be loaded or initialized.

This is what I did to fix it:

1) Remove winsock and winsock2 from registry editor.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

2) Restart PC.

3) Go to Network connections and Right click their connection. Choose Properties.

4). Click Install.

5). Click Protocol, then click Add.

6) Click Have Disk. Type C:\Windows\inf.

7). On the list available choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click OK.

That’s it. After that the computer can happily browse Internet again. :)

Hehehe.. I spent like three hours on this.

It’s not about me, though. I feel sorry for my friends who have to reinstall all the computers they maintain if this kind of problem is not fix. Hopefully by this it can reduce their burdens. :)
